What's Next?

Today I officially end my being student of philosophy.

After almost 3 years in the Ateneo, 2 years in UST, I am now a free man, free from all philosophy subjects. I had my last and hardest oral exam this day. It lasted for 20 mins (though my professor wanted it to extend for another 20 mins for further inquiries) but I have managed to escape those difficult questions. Now I can rest from the philosophical text, escape from the question of being, and have a jouisannce. To attain that fullness of my own being as I participate in the first exemplar, efficient and final cause of my own esse.

Now I am left with the question "what must I do at the end of philosophy?" There are lot of options where I can choose from. What would be the best option to take next school year?

But for the mean time, I heard a rumor that Rica Peralejo was accepted in the Ateneo and will study creative writing.

AYUN!

The Scent of the Breeze

There is something in the wind that I cannot explain. I came out from my room this afternoon and suddenly a familiar scent spreads around our corridor. It’s difficult to explain, and somehow the feeling was a little bit nostalgic. I decided to take a walk and try to remember what it is. It was 5:45 in the afternoon, just in time for the sun to set, and from the football field you can see its golden beams passing through the two condominiums in Katipunan Ave, I stopped for a while just staring at the sun.

I don’t know if someone has the same feeling but I think I smelled the sea, though it’s really hard to imagine that because from Katipunan, the nearest beach is way far. But in my mind, there was this distinct scent of the sea and sand and it is in the wind. I love the smell of the sea, needless to say that I love going to beaches. Whenever I feel helpless or sad or lonely, I always go to a place where I can look on the sea and try to listen to sound of the waves and feel the soft breeze. There I could rest for a while, then I would wait for the sun to set and watch the magical spectacle of the sun sinking down to the sea, a sign for me that another day has ended.

The sea breeze also reminds me that another (school year) has ended (summer time! summer time!), it means also time for friends and with my family. Those moments when I was in the beach, sitting on the sand, watching the sun and listening to the waves... I miss those days. Too bad that I don’t have the chance to go this year to go to a nearby beach where I can enjoy the sand, sea and breeze.

Snap! There it is! That was the thing that I was seeking. The sea and end of the school year!

Ang Kapangyarihan ng Pagpapatawad

Ika-5 Linggo ng Kwaresma
Montalban, Rizal

Amen.

The Call from Within

This video was from Callalily's MTV "Magbalik". One of my brothers here made a spoof to make it "useful", that is to spread vocations. Most of us I think had this same experience and well in fact can relate to this story, but the video poses a challenge for all of us: are we willing to take the risk and leave everything behind for the sake of a higher call to love? Are we willing to be hurt and forget our own selves and follow the voice from within? This video will show that there are still people who answered the call and risked everything they have to follow that certain voice from within.

Advice to Someone

Let us always remember that a relationship is not about laughter and good times. A relationship is also about hurting and getting hurt. It is about understanding others when they stepped on our feet. It is about forgiveness when we have been hurt. It is about trust when we have been betrayed. And most importantly, it is about love when we feel like giving up.

Keep on keeping on

“Rise, let us be going” – Matthew 26:46

In the Garden of Getsemane, the disciplies went to sleep when they should have stayed awake, and once they realized what they had done it produced despair. The sense of having done something irreversible tends to make us despair. We say, “well, it’s all over and ruined now; what’s the point in trying anymore.” If we think this kind of despair is an exception, we are mistaken. It is a very ordinary human experience. Whenever we realize we have not taken advantage of a magnificent opportunity, we are apt to sink into despair. But Jesus comes and lovingly says to us in essence, “sleep on now. That opportunity is lost forever and you can’t change that. But get up, and let’s go on to the next thing.” In other words, let the past sleep, but let is sleep in the sweet embrace of Christ, and let us go on into invincible future with Him.

There will be experiences like this in each of our lives. We will have times of despair caused by real events in our lives, and we will be unable to life our selves out of them. The disciples, in this instance, had done a downright unthinkable thing – they had gone to sleep instead of watching with Jesus. But our Lord came to them taking the spiritual initiative against the spiritual against their despair and said in effect, “get up, and do the next thing.” If we are inspired by God, what is next thing? It is to trust Him absolutely and to pray on the basis of His redemption.

Never let the sense of past failure defeat your next step.

Realization

After prayer this came to me...

what you keep in your heart will always be with you wherever you go. You can run for as long as you want to but you cannot hide from your own shadow . That feeling you still hold for someone doesn’t care if she’s just around or miles away from you. In the end , you would still have to deal with it wherever you may be. Do not run away from the past because it will always catch up with you no matter how far you go.You cannot turn a new page if you do not close this chapter of your life.

AMEN.

p.s. and this applies to all women too! just change the word from she to he =)
